Traditional Karate
Karate means “empty hand.” In traditional karate-do, training is more than self-defence or exercise alone. It is a disciplined Japanese martial art that develops coordination, focus, respect, and steady improvement through repeated study of fundamental technique.
For people looking for Shotokan karate classes in Penticton, or traditional martial arts training in the South Okanagan, practice begins with the basics and develops over time. Beginners, teens, adults, and returning students are welcome to ask whether current classes are a good fit.

Instructor
Classes are taught by Kurt Goessman, a Sandan who began training in Shotokan karate in 1983 in Kamloops, BC. His instruction focuses on traditional Shotokan practice, including fundamentals, discipline, respect, and steady long-term development.
Sandan means third-degree black belt. In traditional karate, rank reflects years of training, testing, responsibility, and continued practice. It is not treated as an ending point, but as part of an ongoing path of study.
Kurt can answer questions about September registration, current availability, trial classes, student age, fees, payment methods, and Canada Shotokan Karate membership.

Students are introduced gradually to basic movement, posture, technique, listening, and class etiquette.
Classes are generally for students age 13 and older, or with instructor permission.
Trial classes are arranged by contacting Kurt first so expectations, timing, and class fit can be confirmed.
